Wave Grinder does something different.
We use sound as the medium for genuine human connection. Not because you’ll learn about sound design — but because the act of truly listening to someone’s sound, and letting them hear yours, turns out to be one of the most direct ways to understand who they are.
No instruments. No prior experience. Just you, the people next to you, and the sounds that matter to you.

Sound is everywhere — but the sounds that lock in your emotions are harder to find. Bring yours. We’ll go looking together.
Every person carries a handful of sounds that mean something — a specific piece of music, a sound from childhood, the ambient noise of somewhere you loved. This workshop starts there.
Each participant brings or records 1–3 sounds that carry personal meaning. You share them with the group — not just the sounds, but the stories behind them. The group listens like it’s the first time they’ve ever heard anything. Then, using our Sound Map Browser, all your sounds are mapped together by acoustic similarity — and from that map, we weave them into a single collective piece.
You don’t need to bring anything technical. You don’t need to know what you’re doing. You just need a sound that matters to you.

We design bespoke sound workshops for any group. We’ve worked in school classrooms, gallery spaces, and conference rooms. If you have a specific outcome in mind — team cohesion, creative warm-up, community engagement — tell us, and we’ll design around it.

Common questions.
Do I need any musical or technical background?
None whatsoever. Every workshop we run is designed for people with zero experience. The only thing you need to bring is yourself.
What do I need to bring?
Nothing, for most workshops. For Our Frequencies, you’re welcome to bring a sound recording from your phone — but it’s not required. We’ll help you find or create one on the day.
Can I come with friends?
Absolutely. Groups of friends are welcome, and so are solo attendees. The mix of known and unknown people is often part of what makes them interesting.
Can I book a private session for a team or event?
Yes. We offer custom workshops for corporate teams, arts organisations, schools, and private groups. Get in touch and we’ll design something for your context.
